CORE VALUES

Suffering People are Worth Fighting For.                                                                                       We believe our God is a God of compassion. Throughout the Gospels, we see proof of this in Jesus who did for others what they could not do for themselves (Matt. 9:36, Mark 1:41, Luke 7:13). Therefore, we will be a people of compassion, defending and suffering with the hurting, harassed, and helpless. We will feed the hungry, give drink to the thirsty, invite in the stranger, clothe the naked, visit the prisoner, and care for the sick (Matt. 25:35-36). We will do justice, love kindness, and fight for those who have no voice.

We recognize that health is shaped by more than healthcare.                                                We are committed to addressing the full spectrum of Social Determinants of Health, such as physical health, housing, nutrition, education, income, and community support because every person deserves the opportunity to thrive. Through access to resources, connections, and compassionate support, we help individuals navigate barriers and pursue whole-person well-being.

Compassion is Sustained Through Care of Our Team.
We believe that serving individuals experiencing homelessness and poverty requires deep empathy, resilience, and unwavering commitment. To sustain this work, we must also care for those who carry it out. We are committed to supporting our staff and serve-team holistically—recognizing their emotional, physical, and mental well-being as essential to the health of our organization. By fostering a culture of mutual care, open dialogue, and meaningful support, we aim to prevent compassion fatigue and ensure that those who serve can continue to do so with strength, dignity, and balance.

We Believe in the Power of Working Together.                                                                                  We build strong, authentic partnerships with individuals, families, local organizations, corporations, and community leaders. By sharing resources, listening to diverse voices, and co-creating solutions, we ensure our work reflects the real needs and strengths of the communities we serve. Together, we go further, building trust, resilience, and lasting change.

Bridges out of poverty

The "Bridges Out of Poverty" model aims to build relationships of mutual respect between individuals in different socioeconomic classes and create sustainable solutions to poverty through understanding, collaboration, and systemic change.

Poverty is not just about lacking money—it is also about lacking access to resources, including emotional, mental, spiritual, and relational capital. The framework emphasizes that understanding the hidden rules, language, and mindsets of different economic classes is essential to bridging the gap.

The "Getting Ahead in a Just-Gettin’-By World" class is a key component of the Bridges Out of Poverty framework. It’s designed as a practical, empowering curriculum for people living in poverty to investigate their lives, understand how poverty impacts them, and plan for a more secure and prosperous future.
